According to a research study recently published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, up to 28% of the U.S. population is exposed to unsafe drinking water in any given year. Conducted by Maura Allaire, an urban planner at the University of California-Irvine, her team uncovered how a wide spectrum of contaminants such as arsenic, lead and fecal coliform is entering our water sources and exposing tens of millions to the health consequences. This could range from gastroenteritis to cancer and neurological disorders.
